Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm discusses the innovative approach of pool testing of sewage to target community hotspots for case tracking and for making decisions regarding opening our economy. In addition, this technique can help in opening universities safely. Student behavior is also key to opening universities. Vaccines will be key to opening the economy and our educational institutions. Some estimate that it will take 4 years to vaccinate the world. But with almost 200 companies working on vaccines, this will probably take much less time. In the United States a vaccine should be available to all much sooner. Jack Pattie Show. WVLK AM 590. Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USA discusses the implications of the revelations on the Bob Woodward and President Trump Tapes, including that the virus spreads through the air, affects the young and is more dangerous than the flu. In view of what is known, the continued shortage of N-95 masks in the United States and the lack of production capabilities has placed many front line workers at undue risk. Jack Pattie Show. Sept. 11, 2020. WVLK AM 590.  (12:24)   https://youtu.be/rzM1DFGpYD0

73.  2020, Aug. 31: COVID-19: Comorbidities Used As An Excuse To State Few Die
Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm discusses the new spin on fatalities that 94% of cases die have comorbidities. However, this is "associated with and "not caused by". And the comorbidities include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and breathing difficulties. Thus, the majority of adults. With advances in treatments many are now living but are developing long term disabilities of heart, lung and kidney problems. It was not so much the concern for death but for the development of myocarditis in college athletes which, caused PAC 12 and Big 10 football to be postponed. In addition, the report of California successfully opening preschools (using strategies of masking children over the age of 2, social distancing, hand hygiene and prompt cleaning of restrooms and toys after use) was discussed. Jack Pattie Show with Scott Johnson. WVLK AM 590. (8:02) https://youtu.be/pDNntFsals8

72.  2020, Aug. 28: COVID-19: High School Athletics & CDC Changing Testing Recommendations
Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm discusses high school contact sports and how we need to push starting them to a later date. Although the risks of death from COVID-19 in school age children is very low, there are real concerns regarding developing heart disease and myocarditis along with the spreading of the virus to their older guardians. The changing guidance by the CDC is very disturbing since by not doing community testing and testing for asymptomatic carriers the pandemic will spread and not be controlled. Topics of COVID-19 case definition along with hydroxychloroquine were also discussed. Jack Pattie Show. WVLK 590 AM.  (12:20) https://youtu.be/vGrup44rfIk

70.  2020, Aug. 24: COVID-19: Do Not Weaken the FDA & Hyperimmune Responses
Dr. Kevin Kavanagh From Health Watch USAsm stresses that the FDA should not be weakened and vaccines need to be thoroughly tested to make sure rare reactions such as hyperimmune responses to infections do not occur. It was felt the FDA Emergency Approval of antibody serum was a good decision but that the efficacy of the serum was probably not a game changer. Already 30,000 individuals have been treated with the serum. Opening of schools and the need for upgraded ventilation and N-95 masks for teachers along with the benefits of goggles and face shields was discussed. Jack Pattie Show. WVLK AM 590.   https://youtu.be/QVHLJ2zOoc0

Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm responds to White House Task Force Dr. John Fleming regarding the opening of schools. Recent studies have demonstrated that school children may not show symptoms and can transmit to their parent and grandparent caregivers placing them and the child's teachers at risk for COVID-19. Needed are N-95 masks for front line workers, capability of testing, safer air quality and repair of dilapidated schools, along with lower rates of community infections. Risks which could have been mitigated over the last 6 months with better federal coordination of the pandemic response. Other topics discussed were the seasonal flu and vaccine along with death rates from the pandemic. Jack Pattie Show. WVLK AM 590. https://youtu.be/eUwnzKPlAxg

Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm discusses CDC data on total deaths in 2020 which shows an excess mortality of over 200,000. These deaths are attributed to COVID-19. Data from San Quentin Prison sheds doubt on herd immunity with 66% of the population being infected with new cases still occurring. Heart disease is also occurring in all types of COVID-19 patients, even those mildly infected. 60% of patients have changes in their hearts and the fear of myocarditis which is occurring in the young is postponing college sports. Finally, the low number of flu cases in the Southern Hemisphere is also discussed. Jack Pattie Show. Aug. 17, 2020. (7:17) https://youtu.be/RXZsi-T3PeA

66.  2020, Aug. 14:  COVID-19: Should We Open All Schools And Masks Worn Only By Those At High Risk?
Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm responds to the strategy of only giving masks to those at risk for COVID-19 and opening all schools. He stresses that cloth masks do not provide effective protection to the wearer but are intended to protect others and lower the R0 of the virus to slow down and possibly stop the pandemic. It was stressed that the lethality of the pandemic is the infectivity of the virus and that during a raging pandemic children can be very infectious placing those at home at risk for COVID-19. Finally, there are long haulers and lasting disability in many who are stricken by this disease. Heart, lung and cognitive problems are common in those hospitalized, even those who are treated at home can develop disabling conditions. Jack Pattie Show. WVLK AM (14:52)  https://youtu.be/SMir00P3jC4

Two Years And Infrastructure Changes are Needed.
Dr. Kevin Kavanagh from Health Watch USAsm agrees with the WHO that the COVID-19 pandemic will likely last two years, since vaccines are not assured and already there is public concern regarding their acceptance. He stresses that we need a shift in our thinking from extending lifelines, to investments (State Grants) for infrastructure changes such as restaurants increasing ventilation and sterilization of airflow along with the construction of outdoor seating areas. Three manufacturers have vaccines which have entered clinical trials. Until the results are known, we need to wear masks, socially distance and wash our hands. Jack Pattie Show. Aug. 3, 2020.
