Kathy Day, RNKathy Day, RN  Return To Board of Directors Page

Kathy Day has been an RN for 44 years. After the tragic death of her father, John P McCleary in 2009, because of preventable Hospital Acquired Infection, she directed her energies to Patient Safety. Her first efforts led to a law in Maine to screen all high risk patients on Hospital Admission. Since then she has broadened her Patient Safety advocacy by affiliating with Consumers Union Safe Patient Project, Maine Quality Counts, the Maine CDC HAI council, the Maine Quality Forum, and the Maine Health Data Organization work on their consumer friendly website, Compare Maine, on healthcare costs and quality. She has also worked with the Maine Statewide work on aging with the Maine Health Access Foundation to create a Common Care Plan.

Kathy was recognized in 2013 by the Maine Patient Safety Academy with the Rising Tide award, and by the Maine Health Management Coalition with a 20 in 20 award. In April 2014, she was granted the Patient Partnership award by the Maine Quality Counts at their annual conference.

In 2017, Kathy Day and Poppy Arford received the Team Award from the Right Care Alliance, part of the Lown Institute, for their work regarding Right Care Action week. Kathy is a frequent health advocacy speaker, most recently presenting a the Lown Institute Conference on "What worries you most about healthcare?".

Her goals are to 1. Improve the quality, safety and accessibility of healthcare and 2. Include the patient’s voice at all levels of healthcare from the bedside, to patient care committees, to the Board room and to healthcare regulatory agencies private, State or Federal.

Kathy lives in Bangor, Maine with her husband Mike, her son Brian and her little dog Louie
